Cross over the bridge into the village. It's only 5 minutes to the bar / restaurant, bakers, butcher shop and grocery store. The Tourtoirac caves (www.grotte-de-tourtoirac.fr ) which opened to the public in May 2010 are well worth seeing as indeed is the Abbey located in the heart of the village.
For those who enjoy a more active lifestyle, the stables in Tourtoirac offer riding. There are clearly defined walks for discovering the beautiful countryside. Alternatively use the bicycles at the house to go sightseeing. Canoeing is available in nearby villages. A swimming pool is situated 5 miles away in the market town of Excideuil. Fishing is available locally at the beautiful Lake Cou Cou.
Perhaps the prospect of a picnic appeals more ? Tables and benches scattered along the riverside in Tourtoirac are ideal for those long relaxing lunches.
